Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
