The second-hand marketplace Users Share Frustration Over Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
